Bible School

The children thoroughly enjoyed the community Bible School hosted by four churches: Dinwiddie Presbyterian, Sylvatus Christian, Little Vine Community, and Bethel Brethren. The theme was on Rome. We missed the first night and after breaking through being shy and timid, the little ones wanted to attend every night. Children were divided into groups called families which were color coded.

  • Tiberius - brown
  • Pompeius - orange
  • Servius - green
  • Aurelius - yellow
  • Cassius - red
  • Octavius - green
  • Maximus - blue
  • Marius - brown
  • Gallius - purple
  1. We missed this night. Each day they had a card which included a postcard from Rome, no way! - an interesting fact, Bible-times blog, memory verse, and choose your challenge.
  2. Memory verse - Romans 12:2. Show everyone that God's love changes us!
  3. Memory verse - Romans 8:38. Show everyone that God's love is always with us!
  4. Memory verse - Romans 5:8. Show everyone that God's love saves us!
  5. Memory verse - Romans 1:16. Show everyone that God's love is worth sharing!

Each night included a drama, going to the market and spending your 2 coins for a craft of your choice and fruit - 1/2 banana, 2 grapes, and an apple slice; petting zoo called the horse barn; a Roman game; visiting Paul in prison with the Roman soldier on guard; the church meeting in secret in the cave; group singing at the beginning and end of every night. At home, in prison, and at the cave, the children were reminded of their memory verse.

The last evening consisted of each group doing a family cheer.

Amber, Braden, and Landon were in the Cassius family. Their cheer:
"Cassius, Cassius, we're the sassiest, we're not the nastiest,
you can't passy us, Cassius!"
and this was created by the one of the girls in the group.

This was how the families were divided.

Allison and Zachary were in the Octavius family. Their cheer in Latin:
"Estis octavius familia curae et amor estis potens familia.
We are Octavius family of the caring and love.
We are a mighty family."

Tiberius family including Terena, Jonathan, and Briant.

Marius family includes Randy, Sheldon, and Angie.

This was the group singing wonderful lively songs.

This is the pastor from Dinwiddie.

The cave for the 'secret church.'

The Roman guard helmet.

Paul in prison wrote the church many letters.

This was dark like a prison when the children visited. I only remembered my camera the last night. Paul sat on the right, in chains while the Roman guard stood or sat on the left. By the last evening, the guard became a Christian.

Angie, Allison, and Amber

Friday night was a potluck dinner of hot dogs, hamburgers, and a smorgasbord of sides and desserts. The children loved the horse rides. I am sure the folks leading the horses got in their amount of walking for that day!

Jonathan who is little but mighty wanted to get off this horse 'all by himself.'
He wanted no help from me!
