Monday/well drillers and company

I think all of ya'll can relate to being gone over a week, coming back home and having tons of work. There's always laundry. But that can be done anytime. For today, I had some flowers from PA to plant. One thing on my agenda was to try to dig a bush growing alongside the road on a steep steep bank.

While trying to do that difficult task which I never did finish, our neighbor's daughter motioned for me to come over while she was at her Dad's house. Since her Mama died a couple weeks ago from Alzheimer's, she's not there as often as she had to go back to work. We started talking and walked around their house discussing flowers. This wasn't in my plans, but it worked out just fine. We also went to the neighbor's house where the owner lives in FL and only comes by occasionally. She said K could have all the flowers she wanted. Somehow I got in the deal. Before I knew it, I had a lot more flowers to plant. I was delighted as I had been planning to buy a burning bush and now a start was given to me. We'll see how it grows.

Zach saw me at the neighbors and came over with the fourwheeler. What a great help! We didn't get half of them planted. But we have all week. I have a habit of starting with a lot of little projects. Before I planted the ones from PA, I dug a lot of mine from the bed just outside the house. I guess I like to see what all I have to work with before I start up there.

Meanwhile, the girls were cleaning up the house and Amber tried to take photos even though the sun was too bright. Some turned out ok.

There's nothing like the scent of lilac and while I was digging, I decided to take a start for my new garden.

Looking back, I think I was rather nuts working outside because you see, we were expecting overnight company. And here I was slaving away outside instead of preparing supper while the girls were washing bedding and all that stuff. Yet everything worked out, except for a raging headache in the evening when I should have had more energy to entertain company. I can always learn from my mistakes. Gardening, in this case, was a great stress reliever -  even though I didn't FEEL like I was under stress.

On top of that, the well drillers came to set up their rig mid afternoon.

You see, for over a year, we've been using the neighbor's electric to power our well. This old house had a shared well with another neighbor across the street. The pump gave out last summer so my husband buried an extension cord from the well to Jr.'s shed which is a couple hundred feet and that's how we get our water.

It's already happened that they were working outside and accidently unplugged that cord. Guess what, we had no water until we phoned them and wondered if they unplugged the cord. We didn't know if the well had quit or given out for good. But they had pulled the cord from the electric circuit.

We could have fixed the pump, but this is an old well and who knows what the pipes and other conditions are plus it runs underneath the paved highway. Why spend money on something you're not quite sure about? Our best option was to drill a well.
Of all times, that's when we had company. Poor things, they had to carry everything they needed across the road and up our steep little hill when otherwise they could have pulled right outside our back door. Their girls' legs were sore from the trek.

We had a lovely visit, not nearly long enough. Our children hit it off. Zach was especially glad to host a friend and he had fun learning about the cup stax. You can imagine what's on his wish list. He has a birthday next month.

And these two little munchkins just hit it off! They played and played. They wanted to finish coloring their picture before they went to bed. And they were both tired as it was late.
