Cold and those without power

It's the end of the week already.

We all go through pain and sorrow, but the presence of God, like a warm, comforting blanket, can shield us and protect us, and allow the deep inner joy to surface, even in the most devastating circumstances. ~Barbara Johnson

We cleaned this morning as a team. By noon, the house was in much better shape. But it was one of those days where I lacked patience. Why? I know it's because I haven't sought the Lord like I should have been.

Then we walked in the afternoon. And I realized I had nothing to be grouchy about today. You see, my friend only got her power on at 12:30 p.m. after having no electric since Wednesday night.

It is COLD. The past couple mornings have been 16 degrees. There are lots of people with no power. That means no heat. Comforts gone unless they have a generator or kerosene heater.

And we've had a warm house, lights, electric. Lord, forgive me for being rather moody today. You see, I have nothing to grumble about. We have things so good.

A news report on the radio said there were still 3,000 some people without power in WV and 5,400 in VA. Some may be out till Sunday. And it is COLD outside - bitterly cold at night.

We watched the dvd on Lewis and Clark from National Geographic. Allison and Zach just finished reading the book The Lewis and Clark Expedition by Richard L. Neuberger. They needed to finish their book before watching it on dvd. It was a great incentive!

Lewis and Clark also lacked many comforts, especially that one winter where they nearly died of starvation. Watching this movie brought back memories of the time we visited the Lewis and Clark Museum in Great Falls.

It also reminded me of those still without power and my heart went out to them.

God, help me to see beyond my needs. Help me to be thoughtful more of others than of myself.
