and decided to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. So while most people were feasting on turkey and the works, we were eating cold sandwiches and riding on a scenic route.
We stopped at this convenience store for a bag of ice to keep that turkey cold.
I loved this store's display. It showcased the remnant of this year's pumpkins while bringing out the evergreens. I LOVE old fashioned stuff like this!
And they even sell 'hungry hillbilly subs'!
Our second stop was at this mill where we snapped our family Christmas portraits in 10 minutes' time. Most everyone was cold. This place beckons us to come back at a warmer later date. There's all kinds of neat old things to learn about.
I love my husband's expressions. He is not the photogentic type. So he just played along with us. Like fussing about 'how he should pose'. I am thankful that we stopped. He is my rock and security 2nd to Christ. I have indeed been most blessed by the best man in the world.
Our little one is growing up fast - too fast! Yet we love this stage.
We saw these sights along the way.....
The Blue Ridge Parkway was built during the Great Depression, a great idea by President Roosevolt.
There are many stone structures and wooden guard rails, not many steel ones. It is a neat replica of the past.
Lovely miles and miles of views and valleys.
At one place the road was high on the mountain with the valley on either side.
Another time we saw the valley to the left...
and then to the right. If you ever get a chance, travel the Blue Ridge.
Wooden guard rails.....
Our third stop was by this waterfall. Along the way, there were many others.
I didn't realize how dark it was to take these photos until the computer showed they were blurry. But I still liked the shots.
Driving this route took at least two hours longer, and we were so glad to get to our destination!
