Who were these people anyway to mess up the whole methodic rythamic morning ritual of us fowl?
Too many times I find myself running frantic, waiting until the last minute to rush out the door only to be held up by some stupid birds taking their good old time who simply would not get off the road in order for me to make it to my appointment in time.
But this morning, Merv and I both laughed and thought it the cutest thing that these country birds were so slow in moving. We both enjoyed the moment!
Merv worked on the house, so the boys made good time with school. They've been building this little fort back of the house.
It hit the 70's today. Zach came down for lunch and ended up fixing the sandwiches while I made strawberry milkshake. Then we took it up to the house and ate by the picnic table. Cold strawberry milkshakes, short sleeves, eating outside, in MARCH. Winter is gone and spring is here despite what the calendar says. The boys begged to take their siesta in the tent.
Braden, as usual, had his things meticulously arranged!
By the time I finished dishes and came back on the hill to work, they hadn't slept a wink and were free to go play. Zach busied himself with helping his Dad.
But he also helped me in the woods by making a compost bin with pallets. We've been cleaning up trash. Yesterday we picked a 3/4 five gallon bucket of broken glass and today we picked up the same amount. Plus there's aluminum and steel and we've been sorting this in buckets. The boys are learning how to sort different materials and they're quite good at it. We are sick of picking up glass, but there's so much more to do. Taking a load of trash on Monday to the recycle place and getting a bit more cash than we expected has motivated us to find more trash to trade in for cash. It's been a great incentive for the boys. We find steel and aluminum and cry 'money'. Every little penny helps in this tough economy.
I also transplanted my hydrengea bush and got about 6 new starts from it. I can't wait to see the dramatic display come the time that they are in full bloom in years to come.
The girls busied themselves with outside jobs.
We burned trash yesterday and today in between some beautiful spring thunderstorms and things are really greening up.
By the time the day was over, we were famished and had taco salad. I could hardly walk. My back hurt so bad.
So I assigned the boys to wash dishes. We've had to do that for a couple days since we are out of detergent for our small 18" dishwasher. They did a fantastic job but got the giggles and sillies when they dressed up in this ridiculous fashion!
Landon can really laugh loud when he gets started.
They hurried away, arms locked in shoulders.
Then Zach thought of another style - ears hanging out of the hat.
All in all, we had one joyful hardworking day!
