Spelling and making tortillas for the first

It was another spelling test. In our school, we try to mix things up although frankly, I can't count how many spelling tests we had. I know it wasn't very many. If there's any subject we're lagging 'behind', it's Language Arts.

But today called for writing with chalk outside because it was simply too nice to stay indoors. Crazy teacher never reviewed the words but the students did pretty well nonetheless. They do a lot of copywork and are required by teacher to sound out the words as they are writing them.
Zach chalked out our title as he HAD to be included with writing in chalk outside.

The boys wrote in opposite directions so as not to peek how the other was writing the word.
Landon finished as Braden struggled with the last word. He jumped and skipped while making beating drum noises with his mouth: huh-pook-pook-chee, huh-pook-pook-chee, (higher notes)cracker cracker barr. Over and over. How's that background music for thinking how to spell a word? It didn't phase Braden a bit.

Amber has been wanting to make tortillas for awhile, and she finally accomplished that tonight. We still don't have a press, so she opted to using a rolling pin. She acquired the recipe from Bread Becker Recipe Collection which is currently our favorite cookbook for breads and tips on whole grains. Amber did a wonderful job with mixing, although she probably used a little too much flour.
We finished cooking them on our griddle, but I think I had them on a bit too long as well. All in all, they turned out great for the first time. I know we'll be making a whole lot more once we acquire a press.
