Do Hard Things and Learning to be a Gentleman

I marvel how the Lord allowed one sunny day yesterday in between snow the day before and rain today. It was a nice day for drying laundry outside. School keeps us busy, but we made time last night to pick up lots of twigs along the road. The road crew kinda made a mess out of our privacy hedge along the driveway. They cut lots of bushes and twigs down late last fall, more than we preferred and then left them for nature to dispose.

But with all the bushes cut down, more flowers are in view. It is amazing that many years ago there was a gardener who tended that steep bank every day! There are lots of daffodils and purple phlox that I'd like to move. I was hoping to find some more old fashioned flowers, but there's not many there. I'd be tempted to make it a beautiful garden again, but the trucks and cars zooming past make it way too dangerous to take care of.

In January I happened to haphazardly surf the internet when I learned that Kirk Cameron was going to host TBN. I feel like I'm years behind learning about some people and books. Some of those people we have just learned about is Alex and Brett Harris brothers of Joshua Harris who wrote "I Kissed Dating Goodby". Also, their father spoke at the homeschool convention. These young men are an inspiration to our children about Doing Hard Things. Amber is very encouraged to use the energy of youth to make the best count for God in these precious fleeting years. This video is very encouraging. Go for it, young people! Give God your all.

To get more inspiration, visit their website The Rebelution.

While Amber visited the site on snowy Monday, she found this video:

Daniel, you have been an example and encouragement to our young boys. We need lots more teaching and application to our lives in this area. But by viewing this video, the boys are already practicing to be gentlemen by holding the door for Mommy and sissies and are a real blessing to us. Bless their hearts, they stood in the rain to hold the door open for me. I was honored. Thank you Rebelution for posting this, Daniel for your true example, and Daniel's Mommy or Daddy for producing this special video.

Yesterday we were inspired to begin table manners, taking lessons from the book Manners Matter.
