Trying new foods.....

In reading comments from the Small Notebook blog, I was prompted to try a different smoothie this morning. While I knew the color was going to be green or at least an off color, I attempted to add barley green and flax seed to the banana, apple, blueberries, strawberries, and almond milk. I added too much honey. Groan, I've taken too many greens in the past several years that I can barely stomach them anymore. And yes, the taste was very distinct as all the children but Landon picked the flavor out. They KNEW I had greens in them. The three oldest held their noses shut while quickly swallowing a smoothie they would otherwise sip slowly and savor if it would not have had the barley green in. And how could we just pitch all those precious ingredients away so we all forced them down into our stomachs? That is, all except Braden who is very finnicky and has a very acute sense of smell and taste! This time, poor guy, I gave him a break.

He's had to taste too many foods that he despises lately. We had leftover Calico Beans for lunch yesterday and try as he might, he ALWAYS gags at green beans. Then we had poppy seed chicken last night for supper that was loaded with broccili. He hated it. So we've been trying to push the greens.

Does anyone have a cure? He LOVES sugar and his body gets very hyper as soon as he has a lot. That is the number one solution, I know but so hard to fix. His oldest sister Amber still doesn't really like veggies. They both like meat.

Amber tried beef chili + sour cream and cheddar biscuits for supper. It is a treat to try someone else's cooking! It was so good!
