Scavenger lunch

Sometimes school children need incentives.

They got lots of restaurant coupons from the library's summer reading program so we went out to lunch to redeem those. Their Daddy laughed when I told him our plans.

First, we went to Hardee's and got 2 free little thickburgers. We had another coupon for a double cheeseburger from the Sunday coupons. We needed two more. Our total: $4.36

Next, we went to Subway to get Allison's 6" sub. She won a prize packet for the reading club. Cost: free

Then we stopped at McDonald's and redeemed 3 coupons for small drinks. They don't give anything away. They charge you the tax. Cost: $.26 While waiting for the girls when they went inside to order, Merv rode along and stopped in to say hello. That's always a sweet pleasure to see each other during the day.

Last, we stopped at Wendy's to redeem our last of 3 coupons for a small frosty. We had gotten the other 2 frosties at a different time. This one was Landon's and of course, we all wanted a bite as well. So we bought a large for $1.79.

All in all, we loved our lunch. I thought listing the prices may be interesting in a few years. Food prices most certainly have inflated since our younger years.

We made a stop at the library where they enjoy doing school. We've got several nearby but we have our favorite quiet one.

When we got back, the UPS had left a box. Inside was a red Tupperware bowl. A couple  months ago, I saw a white Thatsa bowl lying on the other side of the road. I left it there for a couple days thinking whoever lost it would return. They didn't. We picked it up and brought it inside. After bleaching and soaking it, the bowl was still very sticky and marked up. Then I noticed a tiny pin hole at the top and I realized that I could exchange that bowl for a new one. The only stickler, I needed a lid. Maybe I should have waited to find one at a thrift store, but I went ahead and bought one.

My husband was/is totally AMAZED and thrilled with the new red bowl. And while it wasn't exactly free, it is better than buying one from the book. I saved a little. All because I found it lying beside the road.

Keep your eyes open. You may find some better deals than this. You never know what treasure lies outside. I've had friends find a good amount of money. I've never been so fortunate, half the time I forget to search.
