Summer rainy day activities

  • Gather natural things like sticks, flowers, leaves, ferns, or anything you can dream up and find outside. Come back inside and if you're muddy and dirty, you may need to take a shower first. Grab some paper, glue, and pencils. Write your name or any other word on the paper with a pencil. Now paste the things you gathered on to your letter and you will have a beautiful piece of art.

On this particular night, the men and boys had a night out at an auction. We ladies and girls stayed home and Amber had fun with this suggestion from her Mama. The girls enjoyed it.

  • Play a game of checkers. Teach your little ones at a young age to learn to enjoy games. The video games can be put to rest. (We play very few computer games at our house. This encourages creativity in life.) You can also piece a puzzle like the fire engine one strewed across the carpeted floor.

  • By all means, get out and enjoy the puddles. That's why your parents bought umbrellas, right!

  • Take some quiet time for yourself. Think. Meditate on Scripture. Listen to God speaking through His Holy Spirit.

For some reason between these 3, this one is Allison's favorite.

  • Grab a guitar and strum, even if it is a monotonous tune. Sing to the Lord. God doesn't mind if you sing off key. He loves when you sing from your heart.

  • Stop and enjoy the beauty of creation like these Shasta daisies. Ponder how detailed our Heavenly Father is. He cares about each tiny detail in your life.

  • Set up the sewing machine and try a new project all on your own like Amber did. She got an old pair of jeans and transformed it into a new purse.

  • Sneak your Mom's camera and start snapping away.

The culprit - again. "But Mom, I'm just trying to take a photo of that sign!"

  • Fix yourself a piece of toast.

  • Ask your dad to pay you for helping him with jobs.

More like demand and beg for money. *smile* You see Zach's been hearing Dave Ramsey. There's the envelope system: giving, saving, spending. And he heard the story of this couple putting money away for a trip to Hawaii. In time, they got to go and the trip was paid in cash. And that made an impression on him.

  • Listen to the Dave Ramsey show or cds and take lessons on money management.

So now Zach has gotten on to this concept. He put his brain to work and made these envelopes.

He changed his mind about getting the police set. He now wants the Coast guard helicopter and life raft. We'll see if that changes. But he's got the right idea and that is to save and have the money before you spend. And the important thing to learn is patience!!!

  • Head out to CVS and grab some deals. The best ones are Sunday-Tuesday. This group of items cost me $.50. Not bad for organic cereal, granola bars, and school supplies.

  • Enjoy a bowl of Kashi cereal complete with natural sweetness of blackberries and frozen blueberries.

And soon the sun will be shining again. We had a short shower while I typed this and now it's clearing off.
